Why I love Gmail
By Bishal Adhikary
When Google's Mail service namely "Gmail" was launced in 2004, very few people knew about it. Back then, Gmail was launced as a Beta and it didn't provide sign ups to everyone. You first needed to have an invitation from existing Gmail users and only then could you sign up an account for yourself. But now it’s simple, just open Gmail.com and sign up for a Gmail account on the go. People got tempted to Gmail gradually, as they learned about its amazing features. When it was launched, Gmail was the only free email service provider which provided 1GB of free space. A lot of free email service providers now give Gigabytes of free space and some even boast of unlimited storage. Google now gives around 7000 MB of storage space which I guess is a lot more than we ever need to use. Well it’s not just the huge storage space that I love about gmail. Gmail's security system fights spam, virus and phising scams. All spams are filtered into a spam folder and files are scanned for known viruses. If google smells something malicious in the emails, it flags a red banner across the top of that mail. One thing that makes you fall in love with Gmail is its conversation feature. You can now have a chat with your friend without a dedicated IM Messenger installed. Just open up Gmail, see if any of your contacts are online, and start sharing words. Not only this, you can also have a group chat with your circle of friends. Some emoticons are also available to add a lively touch to your conversation. Gmail’s email organization system is one of the best out there. Instead of having a list of subsequent emails between you and your friend, all the messages are filtered into one line of Inbox showing the corresponding number of messages in that conversation. You can also create custom filters. Once you sign up a Gmail account, you can get instant access to all of the Google’s services like Google Docs, Google Webmasters, Google Picasa and so on. If you want, you will be redirected to these services if you log in to any one of them. But for this the browsing session should be maintained. Gmail is also available in dozens of languages. So, I love Gmail and I am sure anyone who uses it, will like it instantly.
